Just got a message from them. DH called them back from another phone and all they said was they are a filing agent. Refused to talk to them when the refused to tell us who they were.

HGG or PMG debt collectors. They pretend to be process servers, sheriffs, a law firm....whathaveyou. They are definite pain in the asses and are breaking all sorts of laws in trying to collect a debt they purchased for pennies on the dollar.

When I spoke with my family member, they told me they were not in any legal disputes and was probably a sneaky tactic by a debt collector. Looks like these people are ruthless!

This sounds like a fight. On one hand you seem to know your rights, but choose to slander a phone number instead of utilizing the rights you have.
Either pay the bill, use your rights, or seek legal council. (they are ruthless, that's how they get paid)
So keep a log record of the calls, file a cease and desist, and sue them in small claims for violating the FDCPA at $1000 a call there after.

sorry,but i must respond to this as it is wrong on many levels
1)read the entire post gumby.the nothing comes up on them at all.
2)if these humanoids are gonna call,and break the law they deserve to be talked about.
3)your advice stinks.i never say to anyone to just "pay the bill"
4)they are ruthless because they are a bottomfeeder.nuff said
5)your info on the FDCPA is laughable.it's 1,000.00 per violation,not per call.if all calls are about the same debt it's 1,000.00 total.because that is considered one violation.
i will be watching you closely from now on.
