I (think) I won!

So, it's been an almost three year battle with me filing bankruptcy - pro se, no less - and I finally filed in January and managed to make it through all the paperwork, forms, notarizations and classes on my own. I live in NJ and they have a VCIS (Voice Case Information System), where you can call to get automated information on a case and its status.

According to the VCIS my case was discharged yesterday, on April 30! I know for some people that's not going to mean much, but for me that's huge - I had nearly $50,000 in debt - mostly credit cards.

I learned my lesson and now I only buy what I can afford with my debit card, and only if it fits into my budget.

Perhaps you wouldn't, but I would, when I had to live on less than $20 a week for food and was so broke sometimes I couldn't make it to work - and that was when I was trying to make enough to pay the minimums on my debts.

So, yes, this is winning for me. I had to own up to my debts, reconcile that I didn't have the financial means to repay them, and then go through the court system alone and get my case discharged.

As I said, maybe not to you, but for me it is a win. Today is the first day of my Fresh Start.

I do agree with you. Some needs to be in your shoes to understand the situation. Its very easy to write some thing but the person who went through it knows how difficult it was. lot of cheers to you!!!!!!!..

Sooner or later you have learned the lesson, so know you know how to go ahead from here. So all the best for your future. :D
