Overdrawn fees

My son had a checking account that he overdrew and never settled with the bank for about $237. Eventually the bank closed his account and I assume wrote off the debt. We've been getting demand letters from RJM LLC for about 2 years now. I've read the reports on RJM and am wondering if this is a case of being passed SOL. Should we contact the original bank directly to settle now, or consider it over and done with?
