Okay this is my last one and they are being stinkers. The day before charge off last month the guy was so rude that I said fine - I'm filing for bankruptcy you are leaving me with no choice. I gave him the attorney information and of course they quit calling.

A few weeks later I called to see if I could actually get a settlement and they said it was in the bk unit and would take a week to get out of there and then I could call back. During this time the account charged off.

I called back in and was told I had to talk to a specific person in the Recovery Department. I got her on the phone a few days later (she doesn't return phone calls) and she was still giving me the same settlement offer of like 95% of the balance. I told her I couldn't do that and her response was oh. She just wanted off the phone.

I have not been receiving phone any phone calls and so I called back in this week to see how many days late I am and that's when I found out that they charged it off at the beginning of April. She just gave me the information and then said is that all you need. No trying to collect nothing.

Sooooo. Anyone have experience with the Recovery Department? Is this lag time due to my account possibly being packaged for sale? Does cap one sell their charge offs? Anyone have experience with this situation? They won't even really engage in discussions at this point and I don't want to keep calling in - at this point I'm just waiting for the calls to start again at some point. Oh one last thought - they did settle my other Cap One account but wont settle on this one.

Thanks Maggie. I sent you a pm.

well today I received a letter from the woman at capital one's recovery unit. She is offering an 88% settlement. Yeah it's that darn 12% of the $5000 balance that sunk me. LOL Letter says I have until 5/17 to respond so I guess I won't hear from them until at least then. Guess I'll just relax and wait.

I'm now in the recovery dept with citibank, found out when I called citbank for the umpteen time.
She stated they could no longer help me since the debt had been written off, said a federal law after 180 days?

Really confused how this works, I was told by citibank they did not sell my debt but move it to a different dept, she said feel lucky it didn't go to their attorney.

If they wrote it off but can still recovery a %, won't they be making money? A profit?
Plus she stated it was off their books yet in house?

My last offer from citibank was around 55%, I don't have that much. Wonder if I can get it lower now?

Wow Cap One Recovery is playing games. I received a letter stating that they would settle for an amount that came to about 88%. So I called today and the person I have been assigned to said they would never settle for less than what was spent on the card. EVER she told me. Sounded somewhat reasonable, I can't do it but didn't blame them for trying to get back at least what was spent. She said they would waive all interest and fees.

I said no since 1. Can't do it 2. Will get better offer soon when it goes to a collection agency.

But then I wanted to double check her numbers. I pulled all my statements back 2.5 years. Yes I spent that much - BUT I ALSO MADE SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS OF PAYMENTS AGAINST THOSE CHARGES!! Wow so they want what I spent on the card but I get no credit for the payments I made? Unbelieveable.

I am so insulted that they think I'm that stupid. I mean come on!
