In your case Chapter 7 may be a solution, although never favorable, unless you have tremendous earning power! You are young enough to repair your credit! First, however, try to see if your creditors will settle with you for a greatly reduced amount! Hospitals sometimes will excuse debts in hardship cases!

I agree, medical debt is eligible to be settled! It may take a few years, and lots of hard work, but if you want to avoid bankruptcy, I recommend trying to settle the balances.

Hi,
This is an earnest request not to file for bankruptcy before knowing its pros and cons.A good settlement company can easily resolve your problem. You need to go for a counseling with the company so that they can assess your financial situation and then decide how much they'll negotiate for. They will also take of your financial condition before they fix a repayment plan for you.:p:p

The first thing you absolutely must do is go to the hospital that provided the sevices and talk to their social worker. She will help you. There are several options they have - they can help you apply for Medicaid, contest the claims with your insurance company if you have one or provide you the names of charities that help people in your situation.
Do this first. They are your best resource to get it handled. They want to get paid and if you go to the right person (a social worker) they will help you get these bills paid OR after looking at your situation they may be willing to simply write them off. They did that for a family member of mine several years ago when he could not pay a large bill from a transplant. But the bill collecting division never mentioned any of this. I told him to go in and within a month or so it was all wiped off.
