ive been in collections for 28 years and am rather concerned with the information i am finding on this website. In talking about the "pay for deletion" I have never in my whole career ever been able to delete anything from a debtors credit bureau nor does our clients. So believe it is a waste of time contacting the collection agency as they generally dont report

which bottomfeeder do you work for suzane?anyone who reports on a credit report can delete the entry if they wish.it's just that some need an incentive.pay for delete does exist, and can be utilized.again which bottomfeeding collector do you work for,and what makes you think that your misinformation was not gonna be disputed?

I think some context of pay for delete would be good for people who read this thread.

My comment does not apply to re-aging a trade line which is often done by creditors when you enroll in a repayment/temp. hardship plan prior to them charging off the account and where they will remove 30/60/90 day late pays once you make several timely payments.

Payment for deletion is categorically not done by your original creditors.
Payment for deletion is seldom done by an assignee of your original creditor, and if it is, only to the extent the trade line is reported by the assignee in duplicate of the original creditor reporting. An assignee will only have control of their own reporting, not their boss-the creditor.

Payment for deletion by a debt buyer, or an assignee of a debt buyer, is possible but not probable.

Here is what I believe really matters:

Your original creditor reporting your account as a charge off is what does the initial damage to your report. Negotiating pay for deletes, if and when you even can, will typically be removing duplicate trade line reporting only.

My question is:
Why get hung up on pay for delete?

Get zero balance reporting, which is actual and factual, and/or dispute the entry as a duplicate once settled and zero balance reported.

The charge off from the original creditor is what ultimately will remain, unless disputed and removed as containing some inaccuracy etc...

Not owing a balance any longer and taking steps to improve ones credit methodically over a 12 to 24 month time frame is far more advisable and repeatable by the average person, than hanging onto the idea that you will not fund a settlement or payment unless the trade line is removed. Besides, when holding out for deletion you are telegraphing that you want something which can often lead to a higher dollar amount demand from the collector.

Just my 3 cents (inflation and all...)

Mileage may vary
