I received a summons for chase credit card. Does my local court house have a form to use for an Answer? After I send an Answer, what happens next, how much time is allowed, and does that give me less negotiating room for a settlement? Thanks in advance.

Every local court house will have an answer form. You should also fill out an appearance form. How much time you have to answer from the time you receive the summons depends on your local jurisdiction's rules. You can negotiate with the credit card company until they are granted judgment. Filing an answer and appearance gives you more negotiating room with the creditors, otherwise they can ask for default judgment for nonappearance.

Your local court house might have pro se legal help available, ask the clerks at the court house when you get your paperwork. You can also get help from a licensed attorney in your state for free on www.lawguru.com.
