I live in missouri, and have asked to not be contacted at work, later on today they then faxed over a employment verification letter. which I of course did not respond to.
I called them back, and they are saying that I need to make a payment by may 31st. I asked for verification to be mailed to me, and the lady on the other line said she could email it. Not recieved anything yet.
Just wondering what course of action I should take.
Thanks for your time. and answers!
First of all, after you tell them not to call you are work they
First of all, after you tell them not to call you are work they must abide by that, if they don't, file complaints against them asap with the FTC, BBB and your AG. Secondly, the next time they call tell them they now have 5 days after their first initial contact with you to send you a dunning letter (or letter of collection) via the mail, that is a federal law (FDCPA), if they continue to call you without sending you that letter of collection report them again to the FDCPA because they are not complying with the FDCPA and could be subject to a fine! If and when you receive this letter of collection via the mail, you will then have 30 days to request debt validation, a debt validation via email is NOT acceptable.

make sure the debt is legit - there are a TON of fraudulant folks trying collect on debts that are not owed. 99% of the time, these people are not in this country, and as such, cannot be prosecuted. it is widely assummed within the payday loan industry that a major database was compromised, and this is how many of these fraudsters have most, but not always all, of your info. below is a link where you can read others' stories and what did and did not work for them in trying to reslove the fake outstanding debt.
