They can legally charge interest, their attorney's fees, and court costs in order to settle. It's part of what you agree to when you signed the credit card agreement. Once you have signed the settlement agreement they have to drop the court case against you by law, because they will no longer have a legal reason to continue. Once you sign the agreement your account goes back to CitiBank. The lawyer has been hired just to handle the law suit.

HUH?? another bad answer. Collection law firms will set up the settlement and collect on them as well...that is who they get paid...on contingency. PLUS the sue. They do not send the account back to citibank...their collectors work it.
Original poster...sounds like you are saying Citi is GOING to sue you. It you cannot settle now, they will follow thru with a judgment. In the future they may let you settle, but it sounds like they are still expecting you to pay on a judgement account.

"CITI BANK sue me"
It sounded to me like the OP said they WERE ALREADY SUING HIM. You don't get charged attorney's fees and court costs unless the complaint has been filed and the suit begun.
In that case, once the case has been settled it will be dismissed and the Law Firm HANDLING the suit doesn't have anything more to do with the case. The lawyers handling the suit are not necessarily the collection agency/department.

Well, you're not supposed to get charged attorney fees but many CAs POSING as an "attorney," who are really just the go to CA for the OC, will tack that crap on if you don't know any better.
It sounds to me like they're using their standard BS. Pay us $8K in full NOW, OR, you can make payments and pay the full amount (plus the crap they will try to add on).
