None of the lenders are showing up on a search of the Texas Office of Consumer Credit Commissioner's licensee search database, so I would say they are not licensed in Texas and are illegal.

not yet but no one is due to take anymore money until June 1 and I still have some checks out on the acct that should clear by monday. Where can we as users go check to see if certain companies are licensed by TX? I tried clicking on a link that someone else had posted for another user that was some type of database but it wasn't valid. These are the names of the loan companies as I know them but i'm guessing there's a chance that they are actually operating under other names that could be licensed in TX. I'm going to research them this weekend and see if they fall under any other names.
I guess you deleted the one I posted as a registered user - this one was posted before I registered. it was doing some strange things about 30 min ago - i signed in but then when i would go to check my post I either couldn't find it or when i did find it it told me i was unregistered. Lovely computer world! They have a mind of their own.

You need to secure your bank account and then send out your letters. Make sure your account is secure first! Do a search on this forum for Shazzers' "how to deal with unlicensed lenders" (or maybe it's illegal lenders. She gives you a step by step how to.

Thanks - I'm opening a new acct with another bank tomorrow - then will spend monday transfering money & closing out the old acct - I'll send out the letters next Tuesday since no one is going to try to take money until the 1st. i've already removed the overdraft protection on my current acct. i'm expecting the last few checks I have out to clear tonight or tomorrow. I refigured our budget today & handling it this way will free up almost $1800/mth so I figure that i'll send them each a money order for whatever i owe on the principal (if any) and that's it. I'm actually going to ask a few for a refund! not holding my breath but it's going to be nice to point out that I overpaid more than once on a lot of them! Thanks for everyone's help - I know it's not going to be easy or a quick out but it's nice to know they really SHOULDN'T be doing this!;)
