We had a contractor remove some trees he gave us a price and we paid it. he wouldn't write a contract up, so he has no signature. Now he is saying we owe more money and he claims he will put a lien on our house..Can he do this, without a sign contract?

He has to go to court first. Whether he'll win depends on several factors.
1. He can prove he did the work
2. He can prove what you agreed to pay him a certain amount of money
3. He can prove that you did not pay him what the two of you agreed on.

If the agreement was for more than $500 you might be able to convince the judge that the oral contract/agreement can't be enforced, because of the Statute of Frauds, depending on your state's laws.
I know some people are going to scream at me, but I do recommend you get some advice from a lawyer in your state. You can ask questions from a lawyer in your state for free at www.lawguru.com.
