hi
i had belonged to care one debt settlement, and bingo, i got fired from my job...to make it worse..i could not look for a job in the last 2 months because i had a complaint filed against me, and its getting settled today , the 20th....not sure what happen yet

anyhow, i had been on care one debt settlement for 3 months, ..they did not make payments for 2 months, and got resigned 2 weeks ago because of no income

i got a letter 3 days ago from law firm, citi, on collection

called them and told them about my situation ,and that i will be back on debt settlement when i find a job

now its got to the point of the lawyers.....what can i do...or what should i do?

You got fired for joining a debt settlement company! Sorry, but that sounds pretty unconvincing. Everyday thousands of consumers enroll for debt settlement services.

Anyway, regarding the collection notice from the law firm, if you're sure about the debt , you may consider settling with them, or else, you may send a debt validation letter to the CA to confirm the details about the account.

Even a law firm, when collecting debt for a creditor, is required to follow the guidelines set for the collection agencies. You can search the site to learn about the right way to deal with debt collectors and proceed accordingly.
