Here's another complaint
Date: Tue, 05/25/2010 - 13:49
I have cognitive issues and it was just too complicated to get online:
All I wanted to do is change my billing date from the 5th to the 10th as I started to get Social Security Disability checks and they come on the 4th.
I wrote on the billing statement I wanted to close my account and change my address.
I couldn't get anywhere on the phone because I couldn't give my credit card number, which were hopelessly lost.
By the time I had a fit on the phone, once again trying to get to the rep's supervisor, I had almost $400.00 in late fees.
By the way, there were 0 late payments and my payment showed up consistently two days after the original due date.
The interest kept building up and I wrote and wrote on my statement trying to find out if my request would ever be done.
I ended up being referred to Target National Bank. I tried to get mediation. The bank does not mediate with the BBB. We went round and round, Gene Allen and I.
They do not make 'exceptions'. They never received my requests because they have 'automatic processing' - no one human ever sees the statement I'm told. I had Mr. Allen view my statements, all the way back to a year to prove my actions. Asked him to comment on my payment history.
Finally he must have talked to their legal dept. I should have followed the instructions on the back of the statement regarding which address to write regarding billing disputes.
I reviewed the instructions. It wasn't a billing error I was contacting about. When I finally spoke to a Target representative, and she told me calling or online change of address was how to change the date, I was told they do not make exceptions and when I insisted, she referred me to Gene Allen of Target Financial Services.
I have spent over 6 months trying to pay off the late fees and that was all that was on the bill. The balance was paid off on time long ago.
I know you won't have advice or are able to provide assistance but I hope you will be able to shorten my complaint down to two or three sentences that can me added to the online list.
I feel people need to know what to expect from Target and changes of address.
