predatory collectors

we replied to a summons to the court and the collector. The court received the reply as did the scavenger collector. Apparently it was disregarded by both. We didn't show up to court and the next thing we knew we had a default judgement against. The collector just took almost $17,000 from our bank account for an MBNA credit card debt that the sol expired in 2008. The maximum ever drawn on the account was $5000. We paid almost $8000 on the account and when we stopped paying the balance had escalated to $8000 plus. Why does the law allow these predatorst to victimized struggling people during these hard times? Oh by the way the name of the collector that has somewhat devastated us is Asset Acceptance.

Well, you may be in financial trouble but losing the opportunity to defend yourself while you could, isn't going to help you.
