What are you trying to do? Settle or enter a DMP? Both come with risks...the creditor wont settle or that you may be sued in the process.
It you are going the settlement route, why not just do it yourself? You can call your creditors and just ask for a settlement. No need to pay big fees for a settlement. Just do your research

I agree, you should try doing it all yourself first. If you are hesitating about signing something than DON'T - isn't that how we end up in this credit card nightmare to begin with? Call all your creditors and explain that you are trying to shore everything up and be diligent and keep a notebook of all your info and contacts. This will help you keep everything straight and in order so you don't get overwhelmed. No one is going to look after your interests as well as you -just don't get bullied by anyone. It really takes thick skin to go through this processs. If someone else does it for you than you aren't really taking control of things. GOD LUCK and stay focused! Use the internet and talk to collection people to get info.

I wouldn't advise hiring anybody right now. I would try and settle the accounts yourself. That is what I did and I have settled all but one stubborn one. That way you have the money you may need to file bankruptcy if you need to. Why pay someone money if they can't get the job done and they can't guarantee that the creditor will work with them. Besides it's over much much faster if you settle yourself too.
