Is it normal for creditors to ask for payment first ( original creditors ) then send the settlement letter. I tried so hard with discover to send me settlement letter first and they just wont. And they also want me to pay using a bank account. Why checking account ?

Am I the only one having hard time with them. There willing to charge it off and send it to attorney to collect money instead of negotiating , sending letter first and than payment. The payment must be from bank account... I talked to over 50 people in settle dept, same answer from everyone.

Is this is true. Please help, I am very confused as the account is set for charged off on may 31, 2010.

Thank you

my .02 here (with no prior dealings with settlement)

do not send payment until you get something showing ALL the details. you are just setting yourself up for more headache if you do.

also, do not use a checking account. tell them you do not have one and will pay with a cashiers check or money order. again if you do you are setting yourself up for open range of them debiting your account (albeit unauthorized)

The problem is they all require initial payment before the account is charged off. How can they deduct something if their is no money ?

I cant let my account fall into collection then attorney, because I got too much to lose. I have no choice than negotiate.

What are you telling discover settlement team that they're willing to provide settlement letter prior to initial payment.

I understand the severity of not providing junk debt account #. Besides, I only have 200.00 in my bank account...
