do i have to be past due on my credit cards for someone to help me lower my monthly paymtnts on them?

If your objective is only to lower the monthly payment on your credit cards, you may try a bargain with your creditors when you're still current.
You may also consider consolidating your debt into a single monthly payment. Take a look at our do it yourself section for details.

When I was going into the process of trying to get out of debt, I called my creditors. I told them I was trying to get them paid off in full, but I needed them to lower my interest so I could do it faster.
I called about 6 times to each one until I got one who would work with me, I also had to call once when my husband was out of work, and they lowered the interest and the payments temporarily.Sometimes thi sworks and sometimes it doesn't, but it doesn't hurt to try!
