Account # not on Credit Report

On my report I have 2 collections from AFNI, INC one is $717, the other is $135.. not sure what they're for.. If I send them a verifications of debt letter how do I identify myself so they can do the research if account # is no listed on my report.. Do I use my SS #?
give the last 4 digits of your ss#, your name and date of birth.
give the last 4 digits of your ss#, your name and date of birth. they should be able to find you that way.
