Never take the word of a debt collector. Send a written request for validation of the alleged debt. The standard for validation is pretty low, but most debt collection agencies will not send a written response unless they are actually collecting the debt. After you know they have a debt that is yours, and the debt is within the statute of limitations in your state, then work on a settlement that you can afford. You should never just give out your card info unless you want to be taken for everything that is in it.

Midland Financial usually collects for illegal payday lenders, they aren't a very reputable collection agency and have had MANY complaints against them, they are known for violating the FDCPA, I say, CLOSE THAT ACCOUNT ASAP! Open a new account at a totally different bank. The next time they call you, tell them they have 5 days after their first initial contact with you to send you a letter of collection via the mail, that is a federal law (FDCPA). Until then, I would speak to them on the phone again, once you receive a letter of collection via the mail, you can request debt validation.

Thanks for all your help! I called my bank today (online banking) and explained the situation and my debit card has been cancelled. It feels better to know they won't go free for all on the account, but I'm sure the cease and desist letter will need to go out the moment they start calling me at work nonstop. My cell # I could care less about because I chose who I want to speak with, and it are unavailable or 800 # you go straight to my voicemail.
