When to send debt validation letter

I am just over 60 days past due on my cc debt. I have received at least 2 calls daily and a few threat notices, but I don't recall seeing the "dunning notice" everyone talks about or anything that appeared to be a notice validating the debt stating I have 30 days to dispute the debt. That doesn't mean it wasn't sent, of course. I also read that the original creditor doesn't have to validate their debt.
That being said, how do I know if I'm past the 30-day time limit to file a DV letter to the bank?
I have heard that most DV letters are sent once the bank has turned it over to the collection agency. Should I wait for the CA to get the debt first and then file the DV letter, or send it to the bank asap and see what happens???

Depending on the creditor, it may not be sold for awhile or at all. A lot of credit card companies assign their accounts to agencies and DVing can effectively speed up the legal process. Cap One and Amex are prime examples....they will sue you without hesitation and they can validate.
DVing is a suppose to used if you are disputing the debt is not yours. Using it as a tool to attempt to circumvent a debt can backfire.

I was wanting to use it as a tool to stall them more than anything. So, it sounds like a double-edged sword from what you're saying. Perhaps better to just leave it alone and deal with it.

Guys, I received the first notice from ACT (collection co. for ADVANTA) in which it says I have 30 days to dispute the validity of the debt. Question: should I send them a DV letter or ignore?
