I've been trying to negotiate to pay down a closed account with Citicard, but some of the balance (around $5000) is a promotional balance - not a clue what that is. They will not negotiate because of that. I offered to make a $350 - 400 / month payment at 0% until loan is paid. They told me to get into debt management to get around this loophole. Do you guys negotiate with Citicard. The amount is $26,000 (some of that is late fees, interest, etc.)

citi was quite easy for us to get into their program. call customer service and tell them you are under a FINANCIAL HARDSHIP (hardship is key word), and you need to speak to someone in the hardship program dept. the first time i called, they asked very few questions, set us up for max time of 1 year, 0 interest, 0 fees, cut our payment down to what we could afford (about 1/2 of usual payment). said that if we have a month we can not make the reduced payment to contact them and let them know. also that during the 12th month, to call them and they can extend it another 12 months if we still qualify financially. thing is, you will have to set up automatic debits from checking for so many months, then you can begin making payments online or by mail again.
