Hi there -
A couple years ago I got sued by a creditor for a vehicle that had been repossesed. Went to court, worked out payment arrangements, paid for a year, hit extremely hard times (cut out the sob story lol) and stopped paying. All of a sudden, (2 years later) I notice my paycheck is short. Come to find out there is a garnishment on it. In the tune of almost $400 a month it will be. I was never informed that I was going to have a garnishment. Nothing was ever sent to me, anything. I am a single mom with 3 kids, and can NOT afford to have this money taken out of my check. After rent, I will have about $500 a month for all other utilities, food, etc. Was I supposed to be notified that a garnishment was going to take place, or is it the norm for it to just appear? I am thinking I am going to have to file bankruptcy (credit is shot to to pieces as it is), and this is just kind of the straw that broke the camel's back. I also need to talk to my HR person, because the amount being taken out is WAY over the calculations I did on a garnishment calculator.
Can anyone help??
Thanks!
Laura

Thanks for your response! I probably did... we met after court and I signed papers but in all honesty I don't remember what I signed. (dumb me!!!)
Guess I better look into finding a BK attorney... I can't see us being able to survive with this garnishment, another 4k in medical bills for my son, amongst the other debt. *sigh*
Thanks again!!
