Capital One - does it do any good to talk to "Linda"?
Date: Thu, 06/10/2010 - 14:23
From what I understand, they are a call center in Inda and they are going to try to get me on a payment plan. In order to reach a settlement with them, does it do me any good to talk to them? Should I call them back or should I try a different number?
I have received a couple of form letters from Cap One, but they only state that it will ruin my credit if I don't make a payment by such and such a date. The number to call on that letter is also the same 1-800 number that Linda leaves.
I'm just sort of surprised I haven't had as much contact from them as I have Chase, whom I am only 90 days past due. What gives with Cap One?

Greetings Flipper,
Ahhhh, the memories of robot "Linda" brings a sarcastic smile to my face.
The carp one brass must think that a kind female voice will encourage you to respond!
I must have had 50 calls from the robot voice.
Spoke with the Indians and they ran the spectrum from being very polite to very rude!
Just another airhead to speak with.
I'd call them back for intel.
They will slip up when probed and just maybe give you some insight.
carp one is difficult to reach a settlement with.
Usually it has to go to collections.
Chase started calling after I was only one week late.
carp one just ain't mad enough yet.

Thanks KJL -
They call me at least 5 times per day from different phone numbers. I would think I would be near charge off at 120 late no?
I'll give them a call and try to be patient with them. Any suggestions as to what I should ask?

Oh I miss Linda. I can still hear the message perfectly in my head. LOL Yes talking to the India call center is a complete waste of time. They are very rude and pushy and you can tell that they don't understand that when we took out the debt we could pay it but the economy got sick and now we can't. They treat you like your a deadbeat. They kept telling me that I could file bk myself on line. Yeah right. I'm sure they just want you to goof it up so that they can come after you later and besides what would they know about bankruptcy law - they are in a totally different country!
Eventually you will get to the American collectors and they are a lot nicer and even if they don't give you what you want at least you can understand them telling you they won't give you what you want.

:p that's one of my biggest concerns about talking to someone in India. I'll be like "what did you say?" over and over again because I have a hard time understanding them.
It looks like FINALLY they may have moved to the US center. Today I got automated calls from both "Emily" (english accent) and "Andy" from the same number. Emily said she has some "new options" for me.

Oooh new options is good. I'd call back and see if they are starting settlement talks. good luck and let us know how it goes.

i always wonder if they have someone monitor those calls on mute that can hear what if anything is being said about linda!!

Well I called them.
First I went online to check my account and saw there was an "urgent" note on it. It said I needed to make a payment by July 4 or it could go to legal and I could be sued. Gave the same phone number to call as the recent voice messages.
It definitely did not go to an India call center this time. The customer service rep I spoke with first was very nice and was pushing me to make a payment to avoid going to legal. He said I was 128 days late and when I asked when it would charge off, he said "usually at 180 days." After telling him multiple times that making a payment wouldn't help me and me asking what my "new options" where that the voice messages alluded to, he said "well we do have a settlement option on your account." Then he offered me a lowly 75%. No way I can afford that. I offered 30% and he transferred me to a supervisor. I thought maybe I was making progress, but he wouldn't budge. Told me Cap One would be "making financial suicide" if they went that low (oh please...such drama ) and claimed he couldn't go any lower and 75% was a great deal for me. He pushed and pushed me to make a payment. Kept referring to a payment as a "bandaid" to avoid legal action. He said it was like a football game and I was in "the last 2 minutes." He also started out giving me a minimum payment to "stay in the game" of over $500 then went down to $326 saying that the minimum payment was dictated, not by Cap One, but by the OCC. Anyway, it was hard for me not to chuckle with all the car salesman like pitches he was throwing at me.
I finally closed the call with him saying he would make the statement in my file that I refused to make a payment. I told him I'd call back in a couple days.
The supervisor did mention at the start of the conversation that I used to be such a good customer. What do you think my chances are of getting a decent settlement offer with them? Making a payment (or bandaid as this guy called it) probably wouldn't help me get a settlement.

no i don't think making a payment would help you get a better offer. It is the job of that department to get money in the door - period. I can't make heads or tails of Cap One. According to research I have done, cap one has the highest charge off rate in the industry so they are definately not afraid to charge things off which creates a loss for the shareholders.
Just don't pay
I actually called the number back and got some dude. I told asked what new opportunities he could provide me but he just wanted to talk to my wife (who is in debt and not about to pay them back!!! hhahaha suck off Crapital Scum!!) they jacked her rates with no reason given so she stopped paying. We're just going to get rid of our phone. Who uses landlines anyway!!! Linda will have to find a new date and Crapital won't get any money hahahahaha fools!!!!! Thanks for the free loan dipshits!!!!
Hot Linda and fake numbers
I forgot to mention. next time you fill out a form for credit, give a real phone number, just not yours!!!! Make sure it's not your neighbor either. Give them pizza hut or wendy's. They don't call to check. They only call if you screw up. hahahahahahaha.
Crapital One !!

I called the number "Linda" left and reached someone with an accent who proceeded to push me to make a payment to keep the account from going to litigation. I had previously ignored all the messages from Linda, but since I'm coming to the end of a settlement, I thought I could work on the Capital One account. I guess I'll have to wait until some "real" calls me or I get an offer in the mail. The account is about $3,000.... At this point I would take 50% just to get it out of my hair.

No, because it's the original creditor and they are not calling at prohibitive times. I just let all the calls go to voice mail until I was ready to deal with them.
