I received a letter recently from Dominon about a default judgement from 2002 for garnishment.I did not remember having this debt, so I emailed to find out what it was. I verified the judgement thru the local gov't website.Does the SOL(statue of limitations) have any affect on this judgement being collected.I have not paid anything on this since 2000 and it does not show on my credit report. What should I do?Thank for any advise.

judgements have their own sol, sometimes as long as 20 years. in some states they are even subject to revival, meaning it can be renewed at the end of that initial term. SOL refers to the time frame with which you can be litigated against. if you have a judgement then you were sued and as such the initial SOL would not apply.

How did they get a default judgment? Were you served a summons and then did not go to court or could it be that you were never served to even "know" to go to court? If you were not served, you can file a motion to vacate the judgment.
