Did you ever receive a letter of collection from them in the mail, or did they just call you on the phone? You should never send a payment to a collection agency without a written agreement, you should also receive proof that they are legally able to collect the debt. Otherwise, if you have already done all the above, a money order would be my choice of payment, even if I had a checking account.
