Allied Interstate is calling me to collect on a debt from 1999. It is way past the SOL and I'm not even sure it is mine. I do not know what company they say it is for. I received a letter from them today, after I requested it. It gives several company names but, I still don't really know what it is. No matter what, it is past the SOL. What letter do I need to send to them and is there a specific way I need to send it? Also, will they stop calling after I send them something in writing (within 30 days) that says they are not collecting on a legal debt? Thanks ahead of time for all the help! This website really is a godsend to a lot of people.

your best bet is to request validation of the debt. This will force them to either prove that its your debt, that they have the legal right to collect on it, and that the amount they claim is really owed, or else they will have to leave you alone. I do not advocate skipping out on legitimate debts, but you need to make them prove that it is a legitimate debt first.
