In my field, I know several people who have been told they were not being hired due to bankruptcy.
Which is why I am trying to settle, and avoid bk.
Blackbeasst disagrees with me but that is OK, his experience is different. :)

Dear Peter,
Please try not to worry about this right now. We have enough to deal with .....you have your health and other problems...just keep working one day at a time...Also, i work at a community college and they do not do credit checks. From my experience in health care, county and government work do not use credit checks unless you are working in law enforcement or prisons....federal government may be different, but community college is one of the better ones as far as checking your credit. I hope this helps ....please take care of yourself!!!

I did not file bk because of a modest interest in a small business that would be interrupted AND because I am visible in my community and wished to avoid the public records. However, if things were any worse, I would have just filed and dealt with it. I agree with the other poster on taking care of your health and family. We can always deal with a cr issue as needed. After all, there are a lot of us on this same boat.

Usually the only jobs that it matters are any that deal with money directly. For instance, insurance agents, realtors, financial advisors or if you are working at a bank - maybe law enforcement etc. The worry is that people in financial trouble will skim monies or rip people off because they are in bad financial shape - when in reality, once the bk has gone through you are done owing anybody and the threat goes away since you owe no one. But to get a job as a lecturer shouldn't be a problem. Like the poster said, they don't really have a reason to pull credit and usually don't. I wouldn't worry about it in your position.

Since your discharge was so recent, your credit report would be in bad shape, and since you have been ill too, is it right to presume that you haven't yet taken any step to repair your credit yet?And I think that as long as you are honest with your future employers regarding your history, and that you are confident about your teaching competency, the bankruptcy should not be a problem for you. Also I read somewhere that it is against the law for employers to discriminate against someone who's filed bankruptcy.
