Are collection agencies allowed to call you at work? I thought that was against the law. What can you tell them when they do?

After receiving your cease and desist letter, the CA can only contact you further to notify about any legal actions. But if you have a legitimate debt that needs to be paid and you are trying to escape it, legal actions can always be brought against you.

Sending a cease and desist letter will only restrict them from contacting you at your place of work.

The collection agencies want to verify the employment where the person can be surely reached. If you have an attorney, the collectors must deal with him rather than you.

On certain occasions, when you don't have an attorney, these collectors contact your known ones to find out where you are living, or your place of work etc. Legally speaking, they are also allowed to contact the third party for once only. Your debt problems should only be discussed with you, your spouse or your attorney and not anyone else. So, they have the legal powers to place the calls at your work unless you have restricted them to do so.

Mom of twins, you gave me a reason to blush :D

Wish I would have been an attorney, I would have fought against these CAs doing bad practices.

You are also so strong in suggesting people with the right things. Let's stand strong like pillars here and help people from losing their way out. Great work!
