Redline Recovery keeps harassing me by calling my number and asking for someone I do not know. When I tell them they have the wrong number I get racked over the coals. They start quizzing me and asking me if I'm sure I don't know the person, they want that person's phone number, etc. As far as Redline Recovery is concerned I have to pay a total stranger's debt.

Hi G Martin,

No collection agency is supposed to call you for a debt not owed by you. You can ask them to stop calling you. If they do not comply, send a cease and desist letter, asking them to stop harassing you.

The Fair Debt Collections Practices Act mentions that mentions that if collection agnecy harasses you for someone else's debt, you can file complaint with Federal Trade Commission. You can also file a complaint with the State Attorney General.

You will get a sample cease and desist letter at 1 . Send the letter through certified mail, requesting a return receipt.
