This past Thursday, I applied (like a moron) for a payday loan. I used snappyday dot com which then redirected me to a lender. I was not requiring much ($200) and thought the interest was steep ($89), but understood that I would need to call a few days in advance of the repayment date to have them debit the full amount, which was my intent (I have absolutely zero interest in repeated $89 debits to my account every other week). The actual agreement that I signed was to a company called Brighton FNL (I also received an email immediately thereafter that read like nonsensical gibberish from 'help@brightonfnl.com'. After submitting the agreement, I was given the option to save a copy for my records. However, once I selected that I wanted to do just that, I received an error that the server could not be found. This freaked me out. The email that I did receive had an 800 number that I immediately called... and received a busy signal. I replied to the email because I was not given any information concerning WHEN the deposit would be made to my account. The next morning I tried the number again with the same result. A little later I was contacted by phone from someone with a British accent who said he needed to verify the information I had provided. I was very hesitant with him and kept telling him that he should already have the info he was asking for. He did have it, because he repeated it to me before I even gave it. I went along, because I need the money or I wouldn't have requested it in the first place. After a three-way call with my bank and huge number of questions, I was told the request would be funded that same day and was given a different 800 number to call if I wanted the loan paid in full and how much advance notice they would need before the due date (2 full business days). I said, fine and hung up. A couple hours later, I was contacted by a different person wanting the main number for where I work. I was extremely annoyed with this, told him I was busy, spit out the number and hung up. I became increasingly suspicious, so I called the number the other person had given me. It was an automated answering system. Pressing option one only served to continually repeat the main menu options indefinitely. Pressing option 2 or 3 informed me that no one could take my call and also revealed that they were a company called Kingston Financial. I sent another email to the one I had received originally demanding to speak to someone and also to one specifically for Kingston that I found in this forum (I also called yet another number found here with the same result). I have opened a new account with my bank and once all pending transactions have cleared my current account, I will be closing it. Does anyone know how to prevent them from contacting your employer? As of today, I have not received the $200 to my account and, with any luck, the account will be closed before they can deposit the credit. They requested a home number from me, but I gave them a bogus one and refused to give them my cell number when it was asked for. If anyone has any other tips for losing these people, it would be appreciated and sorry for the long post.

I would explain the siutation to your employer BEFORE they call. Hopefully your account will be closed before they deposit the money, and even if they do deposit it, you can return it. But if your account is pending being closed, go into the bank and explain the situation to the branch manager (no one else will do), tell them to block deposits also, this way you are avoiding a situation before it even happens.

I spoke with my bank about this issue (not the manager, however) and was told that I could freeze debits being taken from my account, but could not prevent credits (sounds weird to me). How does one return the deposit if they do manage to get in there before the pending charges have cleared?

barbrobinson, did you go to your bank and talk w/ the manager about who took out the money? If you haven't taken out any PDLs or authorized other withdrawals, you might ask if you can get your money refunded to your account. After that, it's more than likely your best course of action will be to close your account so that these people or anyone else don't try to take even more money. Some of the companies go by SO many different names, putting a stop payment or ach hold on one or 2 names wouldn't do a whole lot of good.
