If they have refused to validate the debt, then as long as you've kept the certified mail receipt you're good. I would not call these people back. Send them a cease and desist letter via certified mail or fax and otherwise ignore them.

You could easily sue them if you have the signed receipt for the debt validation letter. You will need to obtain an attorney and take in all the proof you have that they (the collection agency) violated the FDCPA by continuing to attempt to collect during the validation process though. I hope you kept the voice mail, that is proof they are attempting to collect. You also need to file a complaint against them with the FTC and BBB. You'll need to send proof with these complaints that they violated the FDCPA, and it seems you have it. This collection agency is subject to a fine and subject to a lawsuit that may be worth up to $1000.00 if you play your cards right and pursue this matter. I don't know that I neccesarily want to pursue this in court, since I don't have the time or resources. My concern is whether CRS and CRSI are the same company or if they are different ones. If they are not, I'm inclined to actually call back and find out what they are attempting to collect on. The fact that they mentioned legal counsel in the call combined with the fact I haven't seen any mail from them would lead me to believe its not legit. Should I call them?

If you are comfortable with it, by all means call them. I wouldn't admit to owing any debt to a voice on the phone though, whether you do or not.

FYI- legal counsel is their favorite spoof terms CAs use. If the CA is legit they will send you a debt letter on what is owed.
