I have an account with Chase that is listed on my credit report as being charged off in March 2008. However, all previous months on the credit report are listed as current. I have bank statements that prove payments were made as well. How can an account be listed as a charge-off with no reported late payments??? What is the best way to go about getting this removed from my credit report?

Also, just curious: how late do payments have be prior to being counted as a charge-off?

An account is charged off after 180 days of delinquency.

This is illegal reaging of debt. That is the date of payments has been illegally updated by the colelction agency to extend the Statute of Limitations on the debt. You should dispute this with the credit bureaus, and report this to the Federal Trade Commission.

The collection agency is illegally reaging your account so that they can extend the SOL. As you said you have all the documents, just dispute the account with the 3 major credit bureaus. Let the bureaus contact the CA and the latter validate the debt.

You should also file a lawsuit against the collection agency with the Federal Trade Commission and the Attorney General of your state as the CA has violated Federal laws.
