Thanks Shazzers. I had the guy tell me today that they were going to come to my work and home. He also said he was going to call the cops and file fraud charges. He still refused to give me a physical mailing address. He said state laws dont apply because they are in costa rica.
Yet is says this on their website:
"IMPORTANT DISCLOSURES: AdvanceMeToday.com and its affiliates offer payday advances, installment loans and credit services only to residents in those states where permitted by law."
Also they sent me something with this on it"

The state Rosenthal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act require that, except under unusual circumstances, collectors may not contact you before 8 a.m. or after 9 p.m. They may not harass you by using threats of violence or arrest or by using obscene language. Collectors may not use false or misleading statements or call you at work if they know or have reason to know that you may not receive personal calls at work. For the most part, collectors may not tell another person, other than your attorney or spouse, about your debt. Collectors may contact another person to confirm your location or enforce a judgment. For more information about debt collection activities, you may contact the Federal Trade Commission at 1-877-FTC-HELP or http://www.ftc.gov."

I've had problems with them too. I sent Advance Me today a C & D letter last week and they continue to call me, last night I sent them another letter saying I will only communicate through email. They called me today from 2 different numbers and told me to "get with it" and call them back. They also sent me an email telling me I promised to call and have until Wed. 7/21 to call them, which I did not. No address in the US still. Does anyone have an idea of how I should respond to this?

Don't let them make you feel that way, they are just trying to scare you. Just how do you think they propose to "enforce their contract"? They sure aren't coming all the way to the U.S., and besides, their laws don't apply here anyway.

These companies try to intimidate people by using pseudo-legal jargon, threats, etc. Please don't fall for it. Yes, they'll probably call but there's no law says you have to stay on the line with them; when you hear who it is, just hang up. As for them being on Costa Rica, it's highly doubtful they're going to hop on a plane to come after a $300 loan. I had an outfit overseas give me that threat, I told 'em to come on over, I'd be at the front door waiting. Please keep us posted what happens - by the way, have you secured your checking account or, better yet, closed it and opened another one, to keep them from getting your $$$?

I had a pdl with them also. They gave me the same crap about Costa Rica law. I told them if they want to expediate me to Costa Rica and pursue a lawsuit to go ahead and do it because I needed a vacation anyhow. Still have not gotten my pif letter or $215 refund, but haven't heard from them since.
