Is there a good website to look up 800 numbers that call. I have one that calls several times a day and then it makes a very awful static noise. There has never been anyone on the other end. One called today and I didn't answer. Not sure if it is even the same one. But there was no info on it on the web. 1-800-392-1887. I should call it back to see who it is, but don't want to. I have an attorney for some of my accounts, so I am trying to be careful who I call. Others I have sent letters to tell them not to call me, so it would be stupid to call them.

TMD, According to the receptionist it is a law firm. Waltham, william berg and reeves (i think). It may be worth your while to either call them back and find out the nature of their call or perhaps have your attorney handle it. Remember, if it is regarding a matter being handled by your attorney, simply give them his/her name address and phone number.

Good Luck

Well, they don't leave messages, so it can't possible be important enough to them. Because if it was a law office calling regarding a law suit or something, then I would think I would get a letter, as well as a message when I don't answer the phone. Makes me kinda wonder if they are legit...unless they are just a bad law firm. So I think I will wait for a letter or a message, then I will return the call.

When I called I asked if this was a electronics store, the receptionist said that they were a law firm, without prodding. She was very polite. As for the name, I was not paying close attention and may have gotten the first name a bit wrong. You probably would not be hurting yourself by calling to find out why they called. IF it is someone you told to not call, then reiterate that fact. In otherworks if not knowing bothers you then call, and if it doesnt, don't. Good luck

Just an update...this number is for Weltman, Weinberg & Reis. I have read up on them a little on budhibbs.com. I got a letter from them finally....and it doesn't even say who the original creditor is. Think that might be a violation of the fdcpa, not sure. They are trying to collect for LVNV...I have been recieving calls from the number still, but the calls are apparently automated because when I answer there is just silence for a really long time. Anyway, here is their info in case anyone else gets calls from them...maybe it can be put in the database of collectors.

Weltman, Weinberg & Reis Co., L.P.A

Cleveland, Ohio 44113-1099

Actually Tevans, I am still dealing with them, sorta. They do not validate debt, and they do not abide by 'do not call' letters, although from what I have found out, their primary purpose is 3rd party collections, but they do some litigation. They called me last Thursday and openly talked to me about my husband's account WITHOUT even asking who I was. Guess they assumed who I was, but I could have been the babysitter. They told me to let my husband know that if he did not call them by noon on Friday, that they will go ahead with the law suit. I have contacted an attorney, and they are supposed to be calling me back. This is probably just a scare tactic on their part, but we will see.

I have been dealing with these people for 3 months. They are very rude, and as you said they will not abide by verbal or written do not call request. I have asked in writing information on debt twice and no response. I am looking for a lawyer to advise me. I have kept records of phone calls with names and conversation, and copies of all corespondence. I plan on reporting the to BBB. Anyone with information please let me know.

Weltman, Weinberg and Ries are a joke. These are "Lawyers" who couldn't make it in the fields they hoped to persue. They are currently one of LVNV Financial's collectors. Don't be put off that they are a "law office"'. They are 3rd party debt collectors.

If you send a demand for validation, always demand competent proof that you are contractually obligated to this "debt" with their "client". Not simply that they have a debt with your name attached and your address.

Whenever I have called them up, they have always been a bit informative, but generally, you'll get high school students (the only people who can work for thier wages). Their employees are generally "brainwashed", and unaware that they could be held personally responsible in a lawsuit.

:o I just got a call on my cell from a similar number 1-800-392-4029 with a reference number, unsure as to the reason because they did not leave a message. Not to mention I can not locate them on-line via white or yellow pages.

It is questionably legal if they call your cell phone, because you'd be paying for the call (under the fdcpa).

Remember, if a law office lends their name to the letterhead of a collection, you have the right to talk to those attorneys. Use it to your advantage. Call up several times per day demanding to speak to Weltman, Weinberg or Reis.

Another number they use is 800-837-6008. I found a site that looks up 800 numbers. If you go to google and type in 800-392-1887, the second link is to a site called whocalled.us If you put a number there, it'll give you a reverse lookup. That's how I found out the 837 # was theirs too.

ha they are a joke they validated the day of court Judge accepted it! I am now paying them monies every month for 30 plus months and the amount never changes.. they are constantly sending me letters telling me that I am late etc. when they have already cashed the check!
I asked the court they said oh they can do whatever they want once they get a judgement... I am more than half paid off and when I send my accounted last payment I will probably have to get an lawyer to fight them. The moto is a well oil machine or something to that effect on their webpage a well oiled thief is more like it!
