I had a BoA credit account that I got behind on the payments on, but kept sending about 50% of the minimum payment every month. I had been able to keep up with it through my online banking (I have BoA checking/savings accounts), but one day last year the credit account disappeared, and I never received any more statements from BoA on it, though I kept sending the payments. This week I got a letter from FIA addressed to "The Esate of [Me]." What's up--BoA thinks I've died?! I've since learned that the account had been written off apparently based on what I can only guess was a clerical error, and now FIA is trying to collect from my "estate."

I am not inclined to give FIA anything, and if the credit account's been written off, then why should I pay BoA? How can BoA think I'm dead when I'm obviously still a checking account holder? It's all very strange.

Any advice?

Greetings,

Every read about Tom Sawyer attending his own funeral?

Seriously, you should at the very least pull your credit report and see what's going on.
You could be an identity theft victum.

A couple of years back, my statements quit arriving.
Turns out that the credit thieves had hit me hard.
Computers, wining/dining and they never even said thank you.

Took about a year to correct everything.
Could be a new angle to steal your identity.

My 2 cents worth.

That is too much! I do have a friend who passed away and the credit card companies were first in line on his estate. Before anything was distributed, they were paid back by order of the judge....So, I guess dying does not get you out of hock. In your case, they are going to eventually figure it out but I would ignore them until then. If for some reason it hits your States sol, then they are sol.
