I am getting calls daily at my business (I am a sole proprietor) wanting to verify employment for someone I have no idea who they are -- at a company I have never heard of. How do I get to the bottom of someone using my#. The last guy was really rude when I tried to answer his questions. I am tired of this. Any ideas?

I'm not sure if Allied Interstate is the same as Allied Legal Services, but yesterday my aunt in NM told me that a "special agent" from Allied Legal was looking for me regarding a "subpoena".

I contacted Allied Legal and was informed I was sued by HSBC for fraud and malicious intent to defraud from a 2000 debt (10 years old) which I have no recollection of, so I asked for validation, he informed me I would only get my validation/proof of the debt if I consented to service of the subpoena by a sheriff that would give me the date/time to appear before a judge and threatened that my assets could be frozen, but this could be avoided by settling over the phone.

I contacted the FTC and my local District Attorney's office who both informed me this sounded like a scam.

Its a scam!! By law they have to send you proof once requested and NO ONE will call you to tell you that you are being served with a subpeona, thats not hows it done. 10 years sounds like its out of SOL anyway, meaning you cant be sued for. Next time they call get an address and send a DV and cease and desist limiting correspondence to USPS only, or search this site for an address

Allied Interstate is a huge collection agency with locations all over the country! The person saying Allied Legal is probably a poorly trained employee using "creativity" to scare payments out of people which is grounds for a lawsuit which would be settled out of court as a cost of doing business! Go for it!
