what is a pre-legal account? I have tried to make a payment plan that would be within my means with Redline Recovery. The payment plan they want to give me is very high 400-500 dollars which is not within my means. When I tell them they are not willing to work with me they say that my account is a Pre-Legal account and they are going by the payment standard for a Pre -Legal account. They are very rude on the phone and harrasing to take me to court. Is there anything I can do? I ended the call by telling them to send me an invoice of what I owe and that I will get back to them. Please explain this Pre-Legal to me and what my options are. Thank you Tiv

First you need to validate the debt by sending a validation letter. You need to make sure that you actually owe these people.

If you do owe them, saying you are going to pre-legal is usually a scare tactic. They want to make it sound like they are going to sue you immediately to get you to pay. Sometimes they will and sometimes they won't. If they own the debt and you owe it they do have the right to sue you.

Give us some more information so we can help. Who was the original creditor? How much do you owe? How long has it been since you paid them a payment?
