I defaulted on a checking account 3 1/2 years ago and Wells Fargo sold my debt to RJM Acquisitions. I am trying to clear up my credit history and would like to pay what I owe...just not to RJM.
Not only have I read the horror stories from people who have been scammed by these scheisters, but my own sister was a victim of their shady tactics and is STILL fighting over a year after paying in full to get her debt marked "paid in full"
I contacted Wells Fargo and was told that I HAD to go through RJM and that they would not deal with me directly. With RJM's history, I am very, very concerned that even if I do pay them, I will have a very rough time getting that information conveyed to Chex Systems.
Is this a valid concern? What would you recommend to make sure that when my debt is paid it is accurately reflected?
Thank you in advance!

If wells no longer owns the account, they have no financial interest anymore. So the answer is NO.

Get a payoff letter from RJM with your balance. Send a check for that amount and then get a copy of the paid check front and back. You can do this with a money order ...however you will have to order a copy of the paid draft thru the money order company.

Even if you pay RJM, wells fargos reporting wont change. They will still continue to report you to checksystems.....your status with them remains the same.
