A few questions about dealing with Dominion law Associates
Date: Wed, 07/21/2010 - 00:40
Should they file for a warrant in debt, are they required to file this with the court in the county in which I reside?
How can Barclays be a client of Dominion Law Associates when they have submitted this as being charged off as a bad debt?
Has Dominion violated any practices by not advising me of a timeframe or procedures to dispute this debt?
Appreciate any help!! This is all new to me - but something doesn't seem quite right.
Thanks, Amanda

First, I would advise you to send the validation letter to Dominion Law Associates. The law has given you the right to dispute the debt if you're unsure of even a fraction the debt.
Under the FDCPA law, a credit company or the collection agency cannot file a case in a court far away from your place. If they do so, you can file a case against them for breaking Federal law (FDCPA).
'Charged off' accounts can be sold by the creditors to any collection agency. Dominion Law Associates are the new owner of your debts as Barclays have sold off your account to them. Charged off accounts are sold everyday so be prepared to be contacted by some other collection agency for the same debt.
Regarding your third question, debt validation letter from the collection agency should advise you to validate/dispute the debt within 30 days after receiving their letter. So, in your case, I think they've violated the law by not including that portion in the letter.
