Has anyone here received a settlement offer for a Chase account via FMA Alliance? I'm just wondering if it's legitimate or would it be a big mistake?

Although FMA Alliance has settled Chase accounts, but the consumer report about this company is not good. There are many instances where a consumer paid them only to find that they're not authorized to collect the debt. So, make sure to verify with them about the debt. Ask them to send a letter to you stating that they're actually authorized to collect the debt for the Chase account. I think it's better to deal with original creditor rather through a third-party agency.

Thanks for answering. I was beginning to wonder if anyone had any experience with these folks! I DVed them when they first contacted me, and they responded with copies of statements. But, nothing that proved to me that they were actually authorized to speak for Chase. I will write them back and again request evidence that they have the right to collect for Chase. Thanks again.

In order to validate a debt, a CA should send the following documents while answering your DV letter. These are a written proof that your is assigned to the CA, a copy of your original contract with your original creditor or account statements from your original creditor and a statement of your payment history till date. If they've not sent any one of these documents, then they've failed to validate your debt.

You can also contact Chase and ask about the CA. They might be able to tell you about the agency whom they sold off your account. Keep me posted about the proceedings.
