i got a voicemail on my cell from someone who said they were investigator george and he has paperwork with my social on and was going to file an affidavit of fact, if i did not reply to this message. he said if i did not reply i would be charged with theft of services. i have never heard of such a thing. he left a number and the name of the place is the department of check services and the number 877-694-1397 and left a case number. i called the number and left several messages with no response as of yet. these people work from 9am to 5pm only. what gives.

It is probably a scam. I wouldn't worry about it.

it is definitely a scam.those are favorite threats of a bottomfeeder.especially one that tries to collect on old pdl's.file a police report for the call.use the number you have, and the message left.then file AG,and FTC complaints the same way.then ignore their sorry selves as this is indeed a bottomfeeding scam.

This is a TOTAL SCAM. Do not believe a word they say as they are simply trying to steal your money. They got your money from some online co that you perhaps applied for a loan with in the past (sometimes in the very distant past) and they try to tell you that you still owe the company money. It is a complete fake; they use fake names and bogus "company names." Your "case number" is just a random set of numbers. No one that really had a case against you would handle it in this way. I am online right now to spread the word because I despise the fact that people like this try to make money off people who are trusting and honest. It is awful and should be stopped. Tell them to never call again and if they do, you can press charges of harassment.

These outfits are unbelievable, aren't they? They refer to themselves as "investigators," many times make up a name for their organization which sounds ALMOST like a legitimate Federal agency, and use all sorts of legal-sounding gibberish in their threats. I wonder what on earth "Theft of services" is! :)

It IS a scam. There are a lot of reports on the internet about these people. We got the same call. After researching and knowing it was a scam, I called them back to see what would happen. The girl was nice, and said I needed a credit card. I said I didn't have a credit card, and asked where I could mail payment. Of course, you can't "mail" payment. She told me to go to Walmart and get one for $5, and put money on it. After a few minutes, I had to laugh, and revealed that I knew they were a scam. She then got nasty, told me she wouldn't be going to jail for money that I owed (which I don't). When I suggested that she check the internet about the scam being posted everywhere, she got even more angry, said a few obsenities, and told me to get out of dodge.

Too funny. Do NOT fall for this!

How do you get them to not call your family and or relatives of your families, family. I thought I had my credit cleared up and then I applied for a car loan and I am getting an influx of these calls. They have called me repeatedly, my Mother's phone number, one even called my for my deceased father saying I owed money and where could they find me. They called my sister's, husband's parents and left a message on their answering machine stating how there was a court order and so on. I understand that that is completely out of order so I am reporting them. I had one tell me if i called their office again they would report me for harassment because I was demanding the original terms and refused to say that was my debt on their recorded line then they turned around and called a number I said they couldn't call.

I’ve gotten several calls from an Investigator George or Brinkley advising me to contact them in 24 hours or they have no choice but to file charges through the State of PA, they even called my sister’s mother in-law (whom I don’t know) asking for me, this scared my sister to death. I called this “company” back and asked that they send me proof of the debt (for all my debts/loans has been resolved & paid in full since 2007 with the help of the fab community on here of course) they refused to give nor send me any information and would not give me the name nor address of their company!!! This “company” went as far as to call my previous employer and threaten to “come and see if I was still there and serve a subpoena”. I would love to report this company but cannot even get a correct name. I’m working on it though guys, I will post it as soon as I get it.

"they refused to give nor send me any information and would not give me the name nor address of their company!!!"

How can they send you any info about the debt when they don't have any. They are bottom feeders. File cases against them with the number you have with your local police, states' Attorney General, the FTC and the BBB. Once you have done this, just ignore their calls.

Do you have a phone number? Try searching the name of the company with their phone number, you can also search the BBB with phone numbers.

I have tried to search by number, name everything they are unfindable. Well at least the one that is continuosly calling me. They called my sister's mother in law and said it was about a debt and made it sound like I was going to jail and so on. We are friends with the whole family so everyone freaked out when my sister's milaw got a call and message. The only thing that stopped them was me advising them it is illegal to release information to anyone but the supposed debtor. They will not give me an address or anything so I filed as best as I could with the attorney general only to get another call the following week from another phone number. When I tried to square up with them, because I do legitimately owe them about $75.00 they refused to let me send them a money order. Mostly because I don't want them to get my information. Every payday I get bombarded with calls from Friday thru the following Tuesday, but I don't answer usually or I say are you willing to give me the address to mail the payment too. They hang up or say I can't pay that way. They continue to argue with me usually if they hang up, I keep calling them back until I get threatened with them reporting me to the authorities lol you'd think they'd just give up but they don't they are relentless. Of course they say that I owe them way more than I do, but I have kept everything, from the original loan docs to the payments. I got a 200.00 loan in 2007- paid bi-weekly the 60 fees to extend for 6 weeks then paid the 60+50 the eighth week, then the 60+50 the tenth week then 60+50 the twelth week and defaulted so I owed them 50+30 because my fee dropped for being under 100 so after I defaulted they said I owed them 250 I paid 125 of that 250 and well I think I have paid more than I should have now that I write it out anyway, they don't want my 75 I say I owe so be it. oh yeah now they say I owe like 1400 for defaulting. I'm in PA they can't legally charge me all those costs and they know it. Oh well..I can deal with the calls I just hate them calling other people on my behalf.

Have you ever turned over a rock to see how fast the bugs under it scatter when exposed to the light? It's kind of like the same thing here. I am with everyone who has told you to report these crooks, but I would like to add something else into the mix: if your local television news has a Consumer Reporter, how about giving him or her a call and seeing how far they get? Nothing like getting the message out to thousands, and shutting these people down for good!

thing is i sent out pdl letters to 3 companies i had pdls with. 2 of them have quit bothering me but these people are the only ones being persisten and they are cmg group llc. They called me at work one day and i called them back and when i asked for a copy of my signed contract and a copy of there license showing they are legal to loan to residents of michigan they got all nasty with me. They put $250 in my account without my permission and i paid them back over $300.

kscornell, the idea of getting a TV news consumer reporter is a good one! However, as many of these scammers aren't even located in the United States - and I'm betting that many of the calls received from people here have been from people with very heavy accents - I don't know what-all our government or regulatory agencies could do. But at least a consumer reporter could put the word out that people need to be careful about sending someone money just on the basis of a threatening phone call.

These guys are amateur scum and the bottom of the collection food chain. They will hang up on you if you announce they are being recorded. They violate every FDCPA regulation on the books. This is a group of idiots working out of thier home (yes you will hear children in the background, common for court officials and police officers??). The official address they are now giving is 78 Webster St. Tonawanda NY 21240, which when requested is rattled off at machine gun speed. They do not like to have to repeat when asked. These folks purchase written off debts from other companies for pennies on the dollar and then attempt to make collections from anyone they can via scare tactics (valid debtors or not). See http://www.tech-linkblog.com/dont-do-business ... lection-agency/ & http://www.tech-linkblog.com/dont-do-business-with-check-management-services-cms-collection-agency/comment-page-1/#comment-3673for additional info on these people. Some other #'s associated with them are 717 566 6041 belonging to a Kim Feehrer and 206 781 3928. When pressed for additional information they claim to be "McDonalds Corp." ("Not the resturant") a representative for the Hershy PA Humane Society. They are a joke and can be entertaining once you know who they are. WARNING: If you return their calls use *67. Once they know you are on to them they will harrass with prank calls.

They do, the message they left on my deceased father's answering machine said they were "check systems" calling on a legal matter that needed to be handled by me or my attorney. When I called them and left a message about calling my deceased father further more disclose a supposed debt they say I owe to someone that wasn't me they called back apologetic then two days later, same gentle left me a nasty message about how dare I call and leave a mean and unwarranted message on their line knowingly when they weren't in the office and didn't have the courtesy of calling them back when they called me. I would have said the same thing to them over the phone it is not my fault they have office hours ending at 5pm. m-f. I had 3 pdl's thru that one company that has all those different names and I paid all of them back with the original time constraints, if I hadn't why in the world would they have given me another one? I digress, this is getting super annoying.
