What do I do when it is this bad?
Date: Mon, 07/26/2010 - 21:54
I got sick without insurance, spent a week in the hospital, a month off of work, and lost my second job due to this. In the three years since this situation occurred, I have sent numerous letters stating my situation- first to the original creditors, then to the endless list of collection agencies that the debts have been passed around to ever since. I refuse to speak with anyone on the phone and request that everything be done in writing, and each time I send a letter months later I will receive a new letter from a new collection agency in charge of my account.
I want to be out of this debt, but see absolutely no way. I am a full time college student with two children working as many hours as I can, and still have to rely on student loans and grants just to feed my family.
I have watched my credit score dive from 785 to less than 500 currently. I have no way to handle this problem on my own, but need to get the ball rolling somehow.
I am being educated in the Media arts and Web design field and if possible would like to find an attorney who can help me in trade for any design services I could offer....

You can look into debt consolidation, or you could also speak to a lawyer about filing for bankruptcy. Those I believe are the two best things that you can do at this point. Start with looking into a debt consolidation or debt settlement company and see what they say and go from there.

I would call 866-833-6398 they could get you a good deal and they don't charge a fee until the settlement is done.

I would file Bankruptcy, a lot of people may not agree, but it will wipe out everything and give you not only a fresh start but room to breathe. Chapter 7's are discharged within 3 months and it is very easy to build your credit back up in a short time frame. I did it 5 years ago and I never had an issue or backlash. I would use a lawyer though and try to find a reasonable one.

Yeah I have to agree - I would file bankruptcy. I would also evaluate whether or not you will be able to pay your student loans back considering what you will be making once you graduate. A lot of people think that they will be making bucco bucks when done, but the reality is usually a little different and then they are on the forum because they can't pay their student loans and live. Education is great don't misunderstand, but paying for it with loans has sunk more people than I can count.
