Help with getting rid of FIRE International
Date: Mon, 07/26/2010 - 23:43
Several months ago I signed up with FIRE International after a very convincing sales pitch (upshot: I had too much credit card debt and was looking for a way to consolidate my debt). After signing the contract and getting the payment schedule, I realized that (1) the amount I would be paying up front wouldn't even go to paying off debtors for at least the first four months, and (2) the amount I would be paying out was almost one full paycheck a month, and with my precarious health and family issues (I am recovering from cancer, and my mom is going blind, so my family has has to give her a lot of help), I could not afford to shell out that much cash. I immediately told FIRE International that I could not make these payments and needed to postpone starting the plan. I faxed them the information they needed to stop the payments and shift the payment dates, and they STILL tried to take funds via ACH (fortunately, at the time I did not have sufficient funds for ACH, so they got bounced) until I wrote them a "Do not take any money from me until I authorize it due to family financial hardship" letter, sent by email and fax, in May. That worked great until last week, when they once more tried to take funds via ACH (and again got bounced). I re-sent the same letter I sent in May via e-mail and fax, but now I know I cannot trust them, and I want out of this contract completely. Help?

I'ld suggest you to send the debt collector a letter stating clearly that you're provoking all ACH authorizations. You may also contact your banker and request him to put a hard debit block so that no one access your account and take out money from it.
You can also contact your attorney and take his advice on how to deal with the consolidation company.

As with any company, I would recommend that you send them a letter and call to follow-up that they received it.
