Let them know you have a friend that is going to lend you $x dollars only if you can come up with a settlement of that amount, but you have more than one card you're trying to settle with (if it's true). In my case they were motivated to settle, b/c otherwise I would settle with the other card.

I believe it benefits the settlement process if they know how bad things are. So I used the approach of telling them honestly and selectively that I was in default on everything and bk was looming.
