collection agency go against a verbal agreement?
Date: Thu, 07/29/2010 - 00:52
We made an agreement to $2000 out of my bank account to settle my mother's collection amount and then we got a letter saying we owe $3500 in full by the end of the month. I already have the money put together for the end of the month, but not $3500. Are they allowed to do this if we talked about $2000 more than 4 times on the phone? Could it be a mistake, the letter I mean. Some additional information is my collection agency I'm dealing with is Amsher. I just want some feedback
The moment you come to an agreement with a debt collector to set
The moment you come to an agreement with a debt collector to settle a debt, you should ask the debt collector to send you the agreement letter in writing.
I think you should call up the CA and point out the mistake and, at the same time, ask for the letter with the settlement agreement. Tell them that you'll not pay unless you get the settlement letter.
In the mean time, put a stop payment in your bank account so that the CA cannot take out the money from your account.
