I received a summons on Saturday for a old account that was charged off to a debt collection agency and they sought out a lawyer. We have no money to pay this and do not want legal action taken against us. We have a few more in collections also. Is debt settlement the route to take if a summons was served or is debt management still an option??? Please help not sure what to do. Thank you.

It is necessary for you to either answer the summons "pro se" as your own attorney or hire one to do so. If not, they will simply enter a default judgment 100% in favor of the creditor and they will add a bunch of court costs and attorney fees. Once it goes through court, you certainly can settle for less than full. Happens all of the time.
