Hi Received a summons for an account that had been in collections for 4 years and I thought a collection agency bought as I receive collection calls everyday. The account is Arrow financial and was for 7,000 and now in the summons says it is $9,990 I did try going thru a debt settlement company a few years ago and they just took my money and did not pay creditors. I am not sure what to do about this and I have 20 days to respond. I have another account in collections also. Is debt management something that could help or another legitimate settlement company? I am the only one working in my household so can not pay on everything. Any advice is appreciated very much.

You need to answer to the summons, else the collection agency will win a default judgment against you. However, please let me know when the last payment was made on this account, and the state you are in? More information is needed to help you in your problem.

You can try negotiating an out of court settlement with this collection agency. If they agree to settle the debt, you should get a written agreement on the settlement. If they don't agree to debt settlement, and if you want to avoid the judgment you will have to pay off the whole amount. In that case you can borrow from your relatives, or may be a close friend. However, before making the payments in full, you should request the collection agency to stop the lawsuit. Keep the proof of your payment.
