Rude!

I just got off the phone (for the second time this today) after speaking with the most rude people I have ever encountered. They would ask a question, then not wait for an answer, but continue speaking as though I had told them to "get lost." When I would ask them, "Please let me speak," I was told, "No. You stopped paying on this and I want to know what you intend to do about it." Well, if you would let me speak, I would tell you! The first person I spoke with was a woman who told me that I must be being too "picky about what job I want because I can make more money on unemployment"!!! Apparently, she doesn't know her math very well. I was making $40k+ and am now making less than $20k and that is only as long as unemployment will continue to be eligible. Do these people think I enjoy being poor? That I enjoy the stigmatism of being unemployed? That I enjoy the fact that at 47 years of age and having a very successful career that I like my retired parents helping me by buying food so I can survive???
What can I do to get these people to stop being so rude? There must be some regulation that says they cannot harrass like this.

Sounds like they are crossing the harassment line. The federal law FDCPA and probably your state laws are the starting point for debt collection laws. If legal in your state, record the call to get evidence of their harassing statements. Then sue them.
Just hang up on them. Trying to reason with them is like talkin
