Has anyone had any luck settling with them. I am around 120 days late, with a $12k balance. I've been offering to settle for 1/3 with no luck at all.

I will share some insight into citibank. First of all, citi bank consist of multiple branches among states. South Dekota branch is known to sue frequently.

You may want to contact citi bank with a your offer of settlement. I would start at 30% then take it from there.

My recommendation to you is that you not ignore the debt. You will get sued . Law firm will not settle less than 70% of the balance. Law suit is pretty much dunk in the basket. You my friend will turn into a shopping cart for creditors

Good luck.

I settled two cards with citi. My wife's card I settled for about 28%. Balance on that one was about 17k. I think on that one we were about 90 days past due, 4 payments over 3 months. This was our first settlement, so I wasn't as knowledgeable and hadn't found this site, but we were still extremely happy.

My card we settled for 20%, one lump payment, we were about 160 or 170 days past due. Balance on that one was about 15k. As the time gets longer, the settlement offers get better. I would always take their calls, or call them back if I was unavailable. I kept a log of every call, who I talked to, what they were offering etc. I wouldn't try to avoid them, but I would let them know we just couldn't afford the offers they were puting forth. In the mean time I was piling up cash. I was always polite (and so were they), and just let them know our finances were tight. I told them a family member was loaning me the money, but only if I could come up with a settlement, b/c they were always asking for a payment. I just let them know I couldn't afford a payment, and could only do a settlement b/c of the family member loan. It was tough having to answer their calls and tell the same story, but worth it in the end. They actually told me after I settled my card for 20% that they hoped things got better for us and we would become customers again one day.

You can do it. Just get organized read everything you can on this website, and know they're making decent settlements everyday. Good luck!

You're welcome and good luck! Post your results when you're done. I'd love to hear how you do. It will also encourage others :)

Hard to believe before Dec 09 I'd never heard of debt settlement, and I was thinking it would take years to get out of this debt. Now there's light at the end of this tunnel, hopfully by the end of this year!!!!
