I disputed a settled Amex account because they still showed a balance even after it was settled, and guess what? They have agreed to (and in fact have done so) delete the account entirely.

Well, I still have 7 settled ones on my report, but I guess it can't hurt. Just goes to show that if you dispute, sometimes they delete. I mean there is no record on my cr's that I ever even had the account.

Dan

That is so strange... they did the same thing to my wifes account ...

We settled with NCO back in January 2010 .... then about 4 months later they had not reported the account settled ............ and it had the full balance.

I remember reading your posts about this a month or so ago.

So I called a few times .... and still the same thing .... full balance...
then I called and told them I was going to sue them in small claims under the FCRA and then.... presto..... they said ok we will just delete the account entirely ??

I said .... well ok ..... and sure enough ..... it is now gone completley .....

I guess that would be better than settled ????

I think we both settled with NCO too.

interesting ??

Mac, ...haven't heard from you forever. Yes it is clearly better to have any of these deleted. The lack of credit information is generally better than any negative info. But is is really funny they pulled the same cr@p with you. When I was posting a month or two ago on amex, I truly believed they had made off with my money and it would only apply to the balance. One guy posts here that you should keep disputing all settled accounts bc it can cause them to delete the history and improve credit.
